Liverpool star Andy Robertson sends message as retirement confirmed

Andy Robertson may be one of the older players in the Liverpool squad, but he is ready to keep going at Anfield.

The 31-year-old made 33 league appearances for the Reds last season as his side lifted the Premier League trophy.

With Arne Slot looking to complete the signing of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth, it is yet to be seen whether Robertson will have a role in the squad next term or if his future could lie elsewhere.

Elsewhere, however, former Liverpool man Adam Lallana has called time on his playing career.

Robertson sends message to Lallana

After six years at Anfield and over 100 appearances, Lallana left Liverpool in 2020.

The attacking midfielder has since played for Brighton and, more recently, Southampton, who suffered relegation to the Championship last season.

Lallana played plenty of times for Liverpool.

Now, at 37-years-old, Lallana has now called time on his playing career, announcing his retirement from football on Wednesday (25 June).

It’s yet to be seen whether Robertson will follow in his former teammates’ footsteps and seek football elsewhere at this moment in time.

Nevertheless, as Lallana took to Instagram to share a heartfelt message as he called time on his career, Robertson sent a message of support.

He wrote: “What a player, even better man! Enjoy retirement,” accompanied by a red love heart.

Robertson has decision to make at Liverpool

With Slot looking to upgrade his squad this summer, it could well mean that players like Robertson see their role at Anfield reducing.

The boss could certainly still benefit from his services at Anfield, with plenty of games ahead, meaning strength in depth is needed.

However, whether Robertson will be ready to see his role reduced just yet is to be seen and he may prefer making a move away to keep his minutes up.

If he wants his career to continue for some time, he will have to keep playing as many minutes as possible.

Atletico Madrid are said to be interested in the Scotsman, which could prove to be an offer too good to turn down.

Slot is going to have to sit down and have a frank conversation with his player this summer to manage expectations and ensure that all parties are happy with whatever resolution can be reached.
