Liverpool fans amazed as new head coach hired – ‘Wow, what an appointment’

Liverpool have restructured their backroom staff as well as their team this summer.

The Reds have added Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz, with Milos Kerkez expected to be next, to make a difference on the pitch.

Behind the scenes there has also been several changes, the most notable of which has been the departure of John Heitinga as assistant coach to Arne Slot.

The Dutchman is set to be replaced by ex-Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst and another former manager may join the champions.

Rob Page set for Liverpool role

Liverpool also lost Under-21 boss Barry Lewtas earlier this month after 12 years of service but have already announced his replacement.

Former Wales boss Rob Page has been appointed as Lewtas’ successor on Merseyside after leaving the Dragons in 2024.

The 50-year-old led the Welshmen to the round of 16 at Euro 2020 and qualified for the 2022 World Cup, their first World Cup appearance since 1958.

Liverpool fans excited by Page appointment

The appointment of Page is seen as a coup for the Reds, given his exploits with the Wales squad.

He has previous experience at the youth level, having worked in Wales’ set-up before his promotion to the senior manager role to replace former Manchester United star Ryan Giggs.

The likes of Conor Bradley, Curtis Jones, Jarell Quansah and Caoimhin Kelleher have come through the U21 team in recent years before starring for the senior side.

The Reds have several high-profile talents in their ranks, such as Trey Nyoni, Rio Ngumoha, Trent Kone-Doherty and Jayden Danns.

It will now be Page’s job to make sure that prospects are ready for a first-team berth when Slot decides to call upon them.

The likes of Lewis Koumas and Owen Beck progressed from the youth ranks with their country into Page’s senior squad, and Harry Wilson and Neco Williams, Reds academy graduates, have also worked under him.

It is a surprise that he could not have gotten a job in first-team management but that is the L4 outfit’s gain and they will not be complaining, especially if it ends up benefiting their most promising talents.
