Edwards ‘pulls off masterclass’ as more details announced on Quansah transfer

Liverpool are set to sell homegrown star Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen, but this will go down as one of their best transfer deals in recent years.

Quansah fell down the pecking order under Arne Slot last season, and failed to hit his best form in limited appearances.

Liverpool have signed Florian Wirtz for a club record fee from Leverkusen, but they will recoup some of that money as Quansah will now go the other way.

The Reds could end up upgrading on Quansah with Marc Guehi, and there is another reason to be excited about the deal as more details have now emerged.

Quansah buyback clause price revealed

Liverpool will earn a significant fee for the sale of Quansah, with the added bonus of a buyback clause making it a perfect deal.

Quansah will join Leverkusen for an initial fee of around £25million (€30m) plus around £5m in add-ons, earning Liverpool an immediate cash injection.

If the defender succeeds in Germany, then Liverpool can buy him back for just above £35m (€40m) as per Sky Sports Germany (24 June), meaning they barely have to break the bank to bring back a potentially top-class defender in a few years.

This is clearly an outstanding bit of business, and Liverpool have chief executive Michael Edwards to thank.

Edwards negotiates Quansah masterclass

While Leverkusen proved tough to negotiate with during the talks over Wirtz, Edwards managed to secure the best possible deal with regard to Quansah.

Although a promising talent, Quansah suffered a few high-profile errors over the last year, and he fell behind Joe Gomez in Slot’s preference.

Liverpool can now replace Quansah with a more reliable option, and with no risk of regretting the sale as they can bring him back very easily should he hit his potential at Leverkusen.

With Ibrahima Konate’s contract situation causing uncertainty, selling Quansah is a bold move, but one which looks almost certain to pay off regardless of how he performs in the Bundesliga.

Liverpool will have a new-look back four next season as Milos Kerkez closes in on a move, while a centre-back will be targeted to replace Quansah.
