Konate reacts to Alexander-Arnold message amid Real Madrid exit news

Ibrahima Konate is out of contract at Liverpool next season.

There has been no progress on a new Anfield deal for the Frenchman, with talks currently at an impasse between the two parties.

The 26-year-old was a key part of Arne Slot‘s Premier League title-winning side but could leave for free at the end of next season if the situation is not resolved.

Konate could join Alexander-Arnold in Madrid

Real Madrid reportedly want to sign the former Paris Saint-Germain youth player on a free transfer after securing Trent Alexander-Arnold earlier this month.

The Liverpudlian has already played twice for Los Blancos at the Club World Cup and posted a message after the 3-1 win over Pachuca, saying: “First win in white. Hala Madrid.”

Konate liked the post, alongside his Reds teammates Andy Robertson, Dominik Szoboszlai and Luis Diaz.

Liverpool need to stop Konate exit

Under absolutely no circumstances should Konate be allowed to depart; he has grown into one of the best centre-backs in world football.

The France international has seemingly put his injury issues behind him and forged a formidable partnership with Virgil van Dijk.

Fenway Sports Group have shown they are willing to back Slot with the signatures of Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz secured and a deal for Milos Kerkez advancing.

They need to continue that by paying Konate what he deserves, and iconic commentator Ian Darke told Liverpool News that is exactly what he expects the club to do.

They simply cannot allow Konate to leave for free, especially not to Madrid, who have already riled the fanbase by signing Alexander-Arnold, prizing him away from his boyhood club with the lure of additional fame and fortune proving too much.

The Spanish giants have had the better of the Reds in recent years, both in two Champions League finals and in terms of nabbing their homegrown icon; they cannot let them do it again.

There is still plenty of time to get Konate tied down to a new deal, and supporters will be praying that the 15-time European champions do not repeat the same trick as they did this summer and steal the French star away.
