Arne Slot ‘in private talks with Andy Robertson’ after Liverpool transfer news
Andy Robertson continued to be a regular for Liverpool last season as Arne Slot’s side lifted the Premier League title with ease.
Since making the move to Anfield back in 2017, the 31-year-old quickly became one of the best in the world, flying down the left.
However, as Slot looks to keep his side moving forward as he seeks a second consecutive Premier League title, this could lead to Robertson finding a future elsewhere.

Robertson to see role decrease at Liverpool
After what can easily be described as a perfect start to life at Liverpool, its no surprise that Slot is ready to keep on building upon that.
Although his side got their hands on the title without much threat from elsewhere last term, Manchester City and Arsenal will splash the cash, providing the necessary pressure for Slot to do the same.
It will also be the Dutchman’s first proper window with the Reds, and he has wasted no time either, having already recruited Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz.
Milos Kerkez is set to be the next addition, but Tony Cascarino worries about what that could mean for Robertson on Merseyside, with private talks already suggested.
Speaking live on talkSPORT (21 June, 6:23 am), he said: “Well, Andy Robertson will know if they’ve signed a left-back.
“I mean, I guess never say never. Again, it’s never a guarantee, Arne Slot might say to him no I want you to be here. I need you, I need you here and I want you to stay here, you’re going to play a lot of football.
“I’d still want to keep Andy Robertson, if I could, but if it comes at the cost of the first game of the season and Andy Robertson is left out, then he will start thinking, well.
“When you’re so used to being the number one choice, and then you lose it, that’s hard. Especially at, what’s Andy Robertson now, 30, 31? He’ll be thinking I want to play football.
“He’ll love playing for Liverpool and being a Liverpool player, it’s just hard to take.”
Slot must make expectations clear to Robertson
As much as the attention is on new additions, Liverpool will need strength in depth to account for the games coming thick and fast next season.
Therefore, if the Reds can have a player with as much experience in the Premier League and Liverpool shirt as Robertson as part of their squad rotation, that would be a massive boost.
Season | Appearances |
2024/25 | 33 |
2023/24 | 23 |
2022/23 | 34 |
2021/22 | 29 |
2020/21 | 38 |
That being said, you can’t imagine that Robertson will be too happy to spend the majority of his time sitting on the bench, especially at the age of 31.
Slot must have a frank conversation with the Scotsman to lay out what he could expect in terms of game time next season.
If it’s not enough to convince the left-back to stay, then supporters at Anfield will be looking towards Kerkez, while the possibility of a move to La Liga would be on the cards for Robertson.
