Tsimikas ‘cannot be blamed’ as striking Liverpool exit admission made
Kostas Tsimikas could be edging closer to an exit from Liverpool this summer.
It has been a difficult season at Anfield for the left-back, who has been used sparingly under Arne Slot, making 18 Premier League appearances along the way.
Although the 29-year-old got his hands on the Premier League trophy, at this point in his career, an exit could be the most beneficial thing and it seems as though he is well aware of that.

Tsimikas makes Liverpool admission
Although Tsimikas was seen as a back-up player when he initially arrived on Merseyside from Olympiacos under Jurgen Klopp, in his five seasons in the top flight, he has struggled to break past that mould.
Now, at 29 and with the clock ticking, there is certainly a decision to be made about what the future may hold, especially as Slot is ready to recruit Milos Kerkez, who will be above the pecking order at left-back.
In addition to this, with the signing of Jeremie Frimpong and a deal for Florian Wirtz soon set to be completed, the Reds may feel that sales are necessary.
Leeds United have already been linked with an interest in the Greek international and now it seems as though Tsimikas himself may be convinced that thing to do.
Speaking in an interview with Greek outlet Sport 24, the Premier League champion admitted: “It’s definitely a temptation to play more.
“I’m happy here, for five years I’ve always been happy with these players I had by my side and with the jersey I wore.
“It’s very difficult to reach such a level, to play in 27 games in a season with a Liverpool shirt.
“If you think about it, not all players play 50 games, some play 50, others 10, others play five.
“I think 27 games I played on average over the last four years is a good number.
“I would definitely like to play more, but from then on in this league, with this team I was always happy and I always gave my best, so I was OK with the games I played.”

Tsimikas should leave Liverpool
If Tsimikas was ready to make the exit from Liverpool this summer, he could not be blamed for making that decision.
Although he has stated that he is happy at Anfield, and who wouldn’t be when lifting a Premier League trophy, after five seasons without breaking through to become a real first-team regular, it seems as though that ship has sailed for the Greek.
Season | Appearances |
2024/25 | 18 |
2023/24 | 13 |
2022/23 | 20 |
2021/22 | 13 |
2020/21 | 2 |
Therefore, if he is already feeling the temptation to get more minutes under his belt going forward, the only way he can achieve this is by leaving Merseyside.
With Leeds already an interested party and a departure giving his current side an opportunity to bring some cash into the club, this could well turn out to be a move that could end up benefiting all parties.
