Liverpool leak emerges as Doak set for 20-plus-year first on Merseyside – Exclusive

Liverpool star Ben Doak could make history if he moves to Everton this summer.

Reds ace Doak shone on loan at Middlesbrough last season before injury ended his season in February, notching three goals and seven assists.

However, he could be allowed to leave Anfield on a permanent basis with a near-impossible task to overhaul Mohamed Salah on the right flank.

David Moyes’ side could take advantage of that situation and sign the six-cap Scotland international to bolster their ranks.

Doak to make history with Liverpool exit

The last player to leave Liverpool to join the Toffees was Gary Ablett in 1992, and the former Celtic youth ace could become the first player to make that move in 33 years.

It has been a little over 20 years since a player made a move in either direction, meanwhile, when Abel Xavier joined Liverpool from Everton in 2002.

However, iconic commentator Ian Darke believes that given the constant links, it would be no surprise if he moved to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Speaking exclusively to Liverpool News, he said: “It is a persistent story, isn’t it, it is not a story that is going away, which tells you that there is no smoke without fire, that has been obviously leaked to people who are on the inside, on the Mersey beat, who report on the club.

“Ben Doak, he is quick and he did well at Middlesbrough, there is that little question with him, is he quite fragile? Scotland wanted to take him into the Euros, he wasn’t ready for that and then having wowed everybody up on Teeside, he got that injury again.

“Unless there is some big problem, I don’t think there is between Liverpool and Everton, it is not impossible that it could happen, I don’t think he has a problem with it either, it is a Premier League club who want him and have him very much in their plans.”

Doak sale could bolster Liverpool budget

Fenway Sports Group are finally backing their manager after years of frugality in the market, with a deal for Jeremie Frimpong already completed and moves for Milos Kerkez and Florian Wirtz advancing rapidly.

Once those transfers are concluded, business may slow down but selling the Scottish star for around the £30million mark, may allow them to conduct even more additions to Arne Slot‘s squad as they try to defend their title.

Liverpool fans are dreaming of securing Jarrad Branthwaite in return but that would be a difficult sell for Moyes and co.
