Liverpool ‘face nightmare scenario’ as 2025-26 Premier League fixtures released

Liverpool’s Premier League title defence may have been made even harder after the fixture list was officially released.

The Reds eased their way to the Premier League crown in Arne Slot’s first campaign in charge after replacing the legendary Jurgen Klopp.

The Dutchman has added Jeremie Frimpong to his squad and looks set to seal deals for Milos Kerkez and Florian Wirtz in the new few weeks.

However, that may not guarantee that they retain the title and the run-in may prove to be extremely difficult to navigate.

Liverpool handed brutal run-in as Premier League fixtures revealed

The Reds were home and hosed by the time that the run-in came around last season, with the title wrapped up after the Tottenham win (27 April).

It may not be that easy this season, with Arsenal and Manchester City planning big moves in the transfer window to catch the Anfield outfit, and Mohamed Salah will miss the Gunners clash at the Emirates (7 January) due to AFCON.

The way that the fixtures have fallen may benefit those sides as the Reds face a brutal final six matches.

They will start that period with a visit to local rivals Everton (18 April) before hosting FA Cup winners Crystal Palace (25 April).

May begins with a trip to Old Trafford to face arch-rivals Manchester United (2 May) and then Chelsea travel to Merseyside (9 May).

The final two matches of the campaign are an away clash with Aston Villa (17 May) and a home clash with Brentford (24 May).

Liverpool will be confident but cannot be complacent

Slot and his charges will be confident that they can retain their crown, but they cannot afford to be complacent.

Given the fact that they are adding top-quality players to the squad, many people will have them down as the favourites but that tag comes with a lot of pressure.

Fenway Sports Group look set to do all that they can to give their team the chance to make history and take a record 21st league title, but it could all fall part in the aforementioned period, if they get too cocky.

Slot will have to keep his side grounded, they achieved a remarkable feat last campaign but repeating it and proving that it was not a fluke will be an even harder task.
