Liverpool ready to sign ‘next Thiago’ as world-beater set for Anfield

Thiago may not have played the most games during his spell with Liverpool, but when he did feature, he certainly impressed.

The midfielder left Anfield last summer after suffering from several injury issues on Merseyside and quickly went on to retire from football.

However, Arne Slot is now lining up a player for Liverpool who could be the next version of Thiago as the Reds go for another Premier League title.

Florian Wirtz to shine for Liverpool

Slot has wasted no time in getting to work in his first proper summer transfer window at Liverpool.

The boss has proven exactly what he can do with the Reds, and Fenway Sports Group are seemingly ready to provide the necessary resources to succeed.

Jeremie Frimpong is the Reds’ first addition of the summer, and Florian Wirtz looks to be next on the list.

It has been a long negotiation with Bayer Leverkusen to secure a deal, but the attacking midfielder is set to make the move for a club record fee.

It’s an exciting transfer for supporters at Anfield who are looking at their new man with stars in their eyes and Dean Saunders reckons it could be everything they expect and more.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (16 June), he was full of praise for Wirtz as he said: “This boy’s a world beater and when you watch him, it’s going to be like watching Thiago.

“You know when Thiago played for Liverpool, and he used to be able to do things no one else could do, and you’d think, I love watching him play. This boy’s the same.

“He can beat people, he scores goals, he has assists, he can play off the left and come infield, he can play as a number 10, which is his best position probably.”

Slot ready for growth with Liverpool

The addition of Wirtz is certainly an exciting one, and as Saunders says, the amount of talent he has in his locker makes it exciting for supporters.

Thiago never reached his best for the Reds but if Wirtz is a player of a similar level and can retain his fitness and go even further, it will be a massive boost to Slot’s side.

Thiago never reached his full potential for Liverpool because of injury.

Although he has shown he had what it took to win the Premier League, the Dutchman’s winning mentality means he is eager to bring new faces into Anfield to go even further next term.

With the level of players being sought out and the support being received from above, there is a serious warning being sent to other Premier League clubs to watch out.
