‘FSG plot Manchester City repeat at Liverpool’ as business news emerges

FSG have their sights set on Getafe for what could be Liverpool’s biggest purchase this summer.

Liverpool are still working hard to secure the big-money transfer of Florian Wirtz, and while Liverpool are set to spend lavishly in the transfer market as they prepare to defend their Premier League crown, their biggest buy of the summer could come at a boardroom level instead.

The Reds have progressed massively under the ownership of FSG, especially in recent years when they have scooped several trophies.

Now, it seems the American ownership group have designs on replicating a move which has already provided the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea with plenty of success.

FSG want to buy Getafe

Owners taking charge of multiple teams is something which has become increasingly common in the Premier League in recent seasons.

‘Multi club projects’ have provided huge benefit to both Chelsea and Man City in recent years, with the links between the two clubs providing ample opportunity to move players back and forth.

Chelsea currently have a contorlling stake in French outfit Strasbourg, while City own shares in several clubs from all across the globe, perhaps most famously, La Liga side Girona.

FSG have long since targeted a similar model, and it now looks as though they have moved one step closer towards taking over a second club.

Spanish side Getafe have reportedly emerged as the favoured option for the Reds, according to Fichajes (17 June).

The Madrid-based outfit finished 13th in La Liga last season, and it’s now come to light that they are the frontrunners in FSG’s plans.

Owning a second club would be a positive step for Liverpool

FSG are expected to back Arne Slot heavily in the transfer market this summer, but if they were to get their purchase of Getafe over the line, it could prove to be just as important as any of their transfer business a few years down the line.

‘Multi-club models’ are understandably controversial in the eyes of some people, and we have seen recent issues arise regarding clubs’ ability to simultaneously compete in European competitions, but it would be hard to argue against the fact that it would be a positive step for the Anfield outfit.

We have seen with the models at both City and Chelsea that it provides the perfect opportunity to loan out young stars who are perhaps not ready for the Premier League, because they can send them to a club that they can guarantee has state of the art facilities and coaching.

By selecting a side in La Liga, Liverpool would also ensure that any players who were shipped out to Getafe for a season would still be playing at any extremely challenging level of football.
