‘Tsimikas to secure shock U-turn at Liverpool’ as internal discussions begin

Kostas Tsimikas could now prepare to stay at Liverpool beyond the summer.

The Greece international has been strongly linked with a move away from Anfield after a difficult season across all fronts.

Under Arne Slot, the 29-year-old became a bit-part player and managed just 833 minutes across nine Premier League starts on Merseyside.

Although an exit looked to be in the pipeline for Tsimikas, the defender could now opt out of a departure before the transfer window even opens.

Tsimikas to react as Liverpool talks begin

When the defender signed from Olympiakos under Jurgen Klopp, he was always meant to be a backup option, but he still found himself in the lineup regularly.

That hasn’t been the case so much in the new regime, and as a result, it was fair to assume that the left-back would be on his way out.

This has seen Leeds United showcase an interest in Tsimikas, but that may now be off the table as the Greek now has a decision to make.

This comes after Andy Robertson was linked with a move to Atletico Madrid, as the Scotland international is “appreciated internally as an ideal candidate” for the LaLiga outfit [Fabrizio Romano, 14 June].

If the 31-year-old were to take up a chance to move to Spain, there would be a gap ready for Tsimikas to step into.

This could point towards any potential summer exit deals being wiped out, with a preference to remain and fight for a role in L4.

Tsimikas could fight with Milos Kerkez for Liverpool role

For many months, it has looked likely that Kerkez will be signing from Bournemouth once the summer window opens up.

As a result, it would make total sense for one of the existing left-back options on Merseyside to make a move elsewhere.

This looked as if it was going to be Tsimikas, but now it feels more likely to be Robertson with a move to Atleti on the cards.

The Scot could now link up with Diego Simeone and leave the Greece international with a place to fight for at Anfield in the upcoming campaign.
