Liverpool given Anthony Gordon ‘green signal’ as Newcastle exit on cards
Liverpool are keen on securing the services of Newcastle attacker Anthony Gordon in the summer transfer window.
Dr Rajpal Brar, an injury expert, has assessed the 2024/25 campaign of the England international with regard to his fitness record.
Arne Slot is eyeing a replacement for Luis Diaz, who could be on his way out this summer.

Gordon expected to pass medical despite two injuries last season
Despite two minor injuries last season, the 24-year-old attacker should have no problems in clearing his medical, according to Dr Brar.
The Reds will have to pay Newcastle £75million-£80million to sign Gordon this summer, with the Magpies willing to sell at that price. [Football Insider, 13 June]
The Newcastle ace was close to a move to Anfield last summer as well, but the move did not materialise.
Liverpool continue to retain an interest and are once again expected to have a go at signing him in the coming weeks.
Team | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
---|---|---|---|
Newcastle | 106 | 22 | 23 |
Everton | 78 | 7 | 8 |
Everton U18 | 32 | 16 | 5 |
Everton U23 | 28 | 8 | 5 |
Preston | 11 | 0 | 0 |
Speaking about this situation, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, told Liverpool News: “Gordon had two minor injuries last season that kept him out for a game each.
“There’s nothing with regards to his injury record that would suggest he’d have issues clearing his medical.
“A Premier League club signing him can go ahead with relatively low risk in terms of his fitness.“

Slot can get the best out of Gordon at Liverpool
To maximise Gordon’s potential at Liverpool, Slot should leverage his versatility, work rate and direct playing style within a dynamic, high-pressing system.
Positioning the 24-year-old as a left winger or occasional central striker, as seen in his standout Newcastle performances, allows him to exploit his pace and dribbling to drive at defenders.
The Dutchman’s emphasis on structured build-up play can enhance Gordon’s decision-making, encouraging him to combine with teammates like Mohamed Salah or Trent Alexander-Arnold for incisive attacks.
Utilising Gordon’s pressing intensity aligns with Liverpool’s gegenpressing ethos, disrupting opponents and creating turnovers.
