Harvey Elliott ‘fails’ after what just happened away from Liverpool
Harvey Elliott played 90 minutes on Sunday as England under-21s were held to a 0-0 draw against Slovenia in the European Championship.
Despite picking up a yellow card just eight minutes into the game, the Liverpool midfielder stayed on the pitch, although he struggled to have the desired impact.
It was England who dominated the game, and Elliott came closest to scoring for either side, hitting the post as the Three Lions set up a final group game with Germany.

Elliott disappoints for England
It was an underwhelming evening for England, who could have been tied at the top of their group with Germany had they won.
Instead, Carsley’s men sit second in the table on four points after two games.
It was not a bad performance from England, although the number of missed chances certainly left them feeling frustrated.
Team | Possession | Shots | Shots on target |
England | 64.7% | 20 | 3 |
Slovenia | 35.3% | 7 | 3 |
Elliott was certainly guilty of that, as GOAL claimed that the 22-year-old “failed to shine”, picking up a rating of 6/10 as “nothing came off for him.”
BBC Sport also felt that Elliott’s performance was rather average, as he was scored a rating of 5.51.
Meanwhile, the Independent highlighted that the Liverpool man “spurned golden opportunities.”

Elliott could be on his way out of Liverpool
Elliott has certainly shown that he has plenty of talent, but at Liverpool, he is not getting the chance to prove that regularly.
With Dominic Szoboszlai ahead in the pecking order and Florian Wirtz now making the move to Anfield, it seems as though opportunities will be even harder to come by.
At 22, this is the time to get into a first team and really put a stamp on things to show what he is capable of and that would surely improve his performances on the international stage, too.
It could well be time for the two parties to go their separate ways this summer and if Elliott can go and break through elsewhere, he could soon be producing performances that could make Arne Slot’s side regret their decision not to make use of him at Anfield.
In the meantime, England prepare to face group leaders Germany on Wednesday (18 June) and Elliott will be hoping he has the opportunity to show a better version of himself in what will be a big game on the international stage.
