Liverpool fans mock Alexander-Arnold after latest Real Madrid announcement

Trent Alexander-Arnold burned a lot of bridges as he announced his departure from Liverpool for Real Madrid, in a bitter ending to his time in Merseyside.

Alexander-Arnold has spent his entire career at Liverpool and won nearly every trophy possible, but has now joined Real Madrid.

Many Liverpool fans are unhappy that the defender has seemingly put himself above the team, and some now believe the move was also motivated by a desire for him to build up his own celebrity image and brand.

Alexander-Arnold’s latest announcement after officially joining Real Madrid has now been mocked, and fans believe they were right about his motivations as a result.

Liverpool fans mock Alexander-Arnold Real Madrid rebrand

Alexander-Arnold has been forced to abandon his favoured shirt number, 66, and has now announced that he will change the name on his shirt as well.

The defender will now rebrand to wear “Trent” on his shirt, and has picked squad number 12 upon his arrival in Madrid.

Liverpool fans have now claimed that this decision has been fuelled by the defender’s ego, and have also mocked his choice of number.

Why Alexander-Arnold changed shirt number

Alexander-Arnold wore the number 66 for his entire Liverpool career, refusing to change to a lower number even after graduating through the academy.

Liverpool fans believed it would have been an immortal number had he become a true Anfield icon, but the nature of his departure will now prevent that.

In La Liga, first-team players are restricted to numbers 1-25 as a rule, meaning that he could not keep his favoured number.

Eduardo Camavinga wears the number six for Real Madrid, and this meant that Alexander-Arnold had to pick an entirely different number, with 12 his selection.

This was the same number worn by legendary defender Marcelo, but Liverpool fans clearly do not believe it can have the same branding impact that 66 may have had for the England star.

Liverpool did receive a fee for Alexander-Arnold, meaning he will feature in the upcoming Club World Cup, but Reds fans will have little interest in whether he succeeds or not.
