Liverpool legend Gerrard in running for new job after exit news
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has been in the hunt for a new managerial position since leaving Al-Ettifaq in January.
Gerrard has struggled since his record-breaking Rangers side won the Scottish Premiership without losing a game in the 2020/21 season.
The boyhood Liverpool fan went on to have disappointing spells at Aston Villa and in Saudi Arabia and has now been linked with a surprise return to England.

Gerrard in running for new Sheffield United role
In recent weeks, Gerrard has been linked with a return to management.
Championship side Middlesbrough had been heavily linked with the Reds legend, and a new club has now shown interest in the former England international.
It is now being heavily reported that Sheffield United could replace manager Chris Wilder with Gerrard after the Blades fell short of their promotion target.
Betting odds according to Sports Casting had Gerrard at 12/1 to be Sheffield United’s next manager even before the news that Wilder is set to leave Bramall Lane.
Wilder, who lost all six of his matches against Liverpool, was unlucky as the Blades fell short in a three-horse race for automatic promotion to the Premier League.
Ultimately, his side faced heartbreak as they conceded a 95th-minute goal in the 2-1 play-off final loss to Sunderland.
Sheffield United could now turn to Gerrard, with a Liverpool reunion potentially on the cards should he get the Blades promoted next season.
Gerrard became just the third player to play more than 500 Premier League games for one club in a goalless draw against West Brom in 2015.
Although his time on Merseyside ended with a disappointing 6-1 defeat to Stoke, Gerrard continued to break records after departing Liverpool.
In his final full season with Rangers, Gerrard’s side conceded only 13 goals across 38 league matches.
During his spells at Villa and Al-Ettifaq, results under Gerrard were mixed and he was eventually dismissed from both jobs.

Gerrard could become future Liverpool manager
A return to England makes sense for Gerrard as he has the chance to reset his reputation.
The Liverpool legend will have learnt a lot from his experiences in different countries, which could help him in a lower league.
Gerrard managerial stats | Matches | Win | Draw | Loss |
Al-Ettifaq (2023-25) | 55 | 19 | 16 | 20 |
Aston Villa (2021-22) | 40 | 13 | 8 | 19 |
Rangers (2018-21) | 192 | 124 | 41 | 27 |
His midfield counterpart, Frank Lampard, has shown that a step down can really improve a manager.
If Gerrard risks managing in the Championship, he could eventually make the jump that Lampard made to manage his boyhood club.
