Liverpool ready Darwin Nunez sale as price tag emerges at Anfield

Darwin Nunez has been expected to leave Liverpool for some time after failing to hit the expected heights at Anfield.

The Uruguayan arrived in the North West from Benfica for an initial £64million, rising to £85million with potential add-ons.

However, after 40 goals in three seasons, his time with the Merseyside club is set to come to an end amid interest from abroad.

Recent reports suggest that Liverpool are holding firm in their valuation of Nunez, who is primed for the exit door.

Liverpool want big money to part company with Darwin Nunez

There has been interest in Nunez for some time, with Al-Hilal and Atletico Madrid admirers of the 25-year-old.

When Nunez arrived on Merseyside, he was often labelled as raw, but his goalscoring potential was there for all to witness.

It felt like the striker just needed time to fulfil his potential, but as opportunities have become sparse, his confidence has been shattered.

However, if he can be given a fresh challenge, then there is still a player in there for whoever can get the best out of him.

While Nunez is expected to leave Liverpool, there will be no cut-price sale, according to Ben Jacobs (11 June).

The sports broadcaster claims that the Reds have a £59.3million-plus valuation of the Uruguayan, having rejected a similar bid from Al-Nassr in January.

Liverpool have highlighted Nunez’s numbers as a starter, while Atletico and Saudi clubs remain keen.

Saudi offers can help boost Nunez fee

The rise of Saudi Arabian football may have taken talent away from the Premier League, but it offers English clubs significant financial reward.

For a player like Nunez, who joined Liverpool for an astronomical fee, his value should have plummeted.

However, because of interest from the Middle East, the Reds can demand in and around the same figure they paid, if not more.

That will have a knock-on effect for any other potential suitors, such as Atletico, who have been known to pay considerable fees.

The Merseyside outfit are now in a fortunate position, where they may even make a profit from the misfiring Nunez.
