Alisson makes Liverpool exit admission as another new goalkeeper signed

Liverpool were always expected to be busy in this summer’s transfer window and we are beginning to see signs of that being the case.

Liverpool confirmed the signing of Jeremie Frimpong in May and signed 20-year-old goalkeeper Armin Pecsi on Saturday (7 June).

A deal for Florian Wirtz is also expected to be finalised in the next couple of days, which would nicely round off the first section of the window for the Premier League champions.

Alisson discusses future after Liverpool sign Pecsi

The capture of 20-year-old goalkeeper Pecsi has led the media to question Alisson Becker about his long-term future at Anfield.

Speaking while away on international duty with Brazil, Alisson admitted that he has “never been able to plan long-term”, but he does not expect to exit Liverpool for at least another couple of years.

The shot-stopper’s contract lasts until the summer of 2026, although he did confirm that Liverpool have an option to extend that by an extra year.

He also stated that he expects the club to take up that option, keeping him at Anfield until the end of the 2026-2027 season at least.

Alisson started Brazil’s World Cup qualifier away at Ecuador on Friday (6 June), which finished 0-0. Brazil are at home to Paraguay on Tuesday (10 June), after which the goalkeeper can take a well-earned summer break.

Liverpool look well prepared to compete on all fronts next season

It would have taken a brave man to wager that most of Liverpool’s early transfer activity would involve goalkeepers.

But that has proven to be the case.

They signed Hungarian goalkeeper Pesci shortly after Caoimhin Kelleher was sold to Brentford for £18million.

Giorgi Mamardashvili is also expected to remain at Anfield next season, after being loaned to Valencia for this campaign.

However, Alisson will remain Liverpool’s number one for the upcoming campaign and probably the year after that.

Alisson has been superb for Liverpool

Arne Slot’s team is looking well-prepared to battle for silverware once again next season, and it will be even stronger if they can finalise a deal for Wirtz in the coming days.

It won’t be easy to defend the Premier League title, but Slot will do everything he can to ensure his squad is in the best possible shape to do it.
