Andrew Robertson ‘fails’ away from Liverpool as new 4/10 disappointment

Liverpool star Andy Robertson captained Scotland to a 3-1 defeat against Iceland on Friday evening.

The Reds defender could not help the Tartan Army prepare for their World Cup Qualifiers against Denmark and Belarus in September in the right way.

Steve Clarke’s side fell to defeat to a team that are 30 places below them in the FIFA World Rankings in an embarrassing night at Hampden Park.

They will hope to bounce back against Liechtenstein on Monday (9 June) and restore confidence ahead of the crucial matches later in the year, but they need the Anfield star back on form if they are to do so.

Robertson earns average reviews away from Liverpool

Robertson’s influence has been slowly waning for Liverpool, but he usually steps up for the country on the international stage.

However, he was unable to impact proceedings on this occasion and his side were humiliated by the team that knocked England out of Euro 2016.

The Herald awarded the 32-year-old a rating of 6/10, saying: “Robertson got up and down the left-hand side with ease and proved a real attacking threat for Scotland. His decision-making in the final third lacked at times, though, with some of his crosses either overhit or blocked.”

The Scottish Daily Mail handed him a 4/10, saying: “Didn’t hit the byline often enough and, when he did, nothing came of it. As captain, failed to lift his team.”

The Scotsman gave the Reds ace a rating of 5/10, saying: “A fairly quiet, end-of-season type performance from the captain that was neither poor nor effective. An average display that he’ll be disappointed with, considering his usual high standards.”

Finally, the Edinburgh News also gave him a 5/10, saying: “Didn’t have much of an impact. Will be disappointed not to have contributed more.”

Liverpool could move on from Robertson

Arne Slot may decide to move on from the Scotsman as his starting option on the left side of defence this summer.

Robertson has been steadily declining in terms of his impact defensively and going forward for a considerable period now and the Reds are reportedly keen to bring Milos Kerkez in as a replacement.

Robertson will forever go down as a legend for what he has done for the Merseysiders since his £8.5million move from Hull City, having been a key figure of two Premier League title wins and a Champions League triumph.

However, his time at the elite level may be running out, and his latest display with his country will not help his case by any means.

It remains to be seen what role he has going forward for Slot’s side, he is unlikely to settle for a backup role and could definitely embark on a new adventure.
