Robertson brutally accuses Man United of lacking respect for player

Andy Robertson has held no love lost for rivals Manchester United during his time at Liverpool.

Robertson, 31, has endured a difficult season under Arne Slot, as age is starting to catch up with the left-back.

The Scotland captain looks set to have his minutes slashed next season with Milos Kerkez’s proposed move to Liverpool looking imminent.

Man United, meanwhile, have endured a disastrous season, finishing 15th and losing the Europa League final.

Robertson calls out United for ‘king’ McTominay transfer mistake

Scott McTominay has proved himself to be one of the signings of the season, and another mistake on United’s long list.

The Scottish midfielder was sold to Napoli in the summer for just £25.7million, after not being guaranteed a starting role under Erik ten Hag.

McTominay has thrived in Southern Italy, scoring 12 goals and providing six assists to propel Antonio Conte’s side to a shock Serie A title victory.

Robertson has joined up with the United academy graduate for Scotland’s games against Iceland and Liechtenstein, and has launched a scathing attack on the Old Trafford hierarchy for the treatment of his international teammate.

Ahead of Scotland’s friendly with Iceland, Robertson said: “I think he went over there with a point to prove.

“I think he wanted to prove Man United wrong and prove people in the Premier League wrong.

“He has gone over there and done that pretty successfully. That’s credit to him, credit to his attitude and his determination to be the best version of himself. Now he is a king over there.”

He later added: “He (McTominay) probably didn’t get the respect he deserves. Then he goes over there, puts in a magnificent season and fair play to him to end it with the league title.

“Even before he was at Napoli, his standards for Scotland were unbelievable. He’s getting better and better, he has taken it to a whole new level.”

Robertson’s show of leadership could still be crucial for Liverpool

Liverpool and Man United are on entirely different trajectories, and it’s clear why.

The Reds have leaders everywhere you look, as shown by Robertson’s backing of his Scotland teammate, and have a clear plan in place for the future.

United, meanwhile, have no clear plan or form of leadership at Old Trafford.

The Liverpool left-back has served as Scotland’s captain for seven hugely successful years, leading his country to two successive European Championship campaigns.

Robertson has shown his maturity as an example for his younger teammates over the years, which is why he must remain at Anfield next season.

The Reds are entering a period of slowly rebuilding following Jurgen Klopp’s reign, and the 31-year-old has been linked with an exit to Aston Villa this summer.

The arrival of Jeremie Frimpong and the potential incomings of Florian Wirtz, Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike would drastically reduce the age of Liverpool’s squad.

With vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold already leaving for Real Madrid, the leadership group at Anfield is now down to Virgil Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, and Robertson.

If the Reds are to continue their seamless transition from Klopp to Arne Slot, the ex-Hull man would be a great mentor for the young talent arriving on Merseyside.
