Viktor Gyokeres transfer: Liverpool in running after ‘£60m+ agreement’

Liverpool can’t pass up the opportunity to sign Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres.

Gyokeres, 27, has ripped the Portuguese league apart, with 85 goal contributions in his two seasons since joining Sporting from Championship side Coventry.

The Swedish striker has been strongly linked with a move back to England this summer, with Arsenal and Tottenham competing with the Reds for his services.

Gyokeres could be Liverpool’s most important signing

Reports in Portugal suggested that there is a £60million-plus agreement that Gyokeres could leave this summer.

Liverpool had been frontrunners to sign the Swede, but on 5 June, Bet365 rank Arsenal favourites at 2/1 and Manchester United at 5/2 ahead of Liverpool at 4/1.

The Reds can’t afford to let their interest fade in the forward who could be the answer to Liverpool’s issues with recent number nines.

In the past 20 years, only Brazilian fan favourite Roberto Firmino has earned his right to play in the prestigious shirt.

At less than £70million, Gyokeres is a bargain in today’s market.

Once Liverpool wraps up deals to sign Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez, signing a traditional striker must become a priority.

After numerous loans and struggling for game time at Brighton, the Swedish international stepped down a division and became one of the best players in the Championship.

Despite interest from the Premier League, Gyokeres made the move to Portugal, where he has won two league titles and has been the top scorer in both seasons.

Now the striker is ready for the next step, and he could be the missing piece in the Reds’ attack.

For years, Liverpool have had brilliance and flair on the wings but have struggled to match that with a natural goal scorer in the middle, and now is the time to fix that.

Liverpool fans shouldn’t worry about signings from Portugal

After seeing Darwin Nunez’s struggles since joining from Benfica in June 2022, Liverpool fans will naturally worry about their potential new signing.

However, Gyokeres is a completely different category of striker.

The Swede is the opposite of Nunez’s chaotic and unpredictable style and instead offers a composed and physical element in attack.

Liverpool can’t let up the opportunity to bring the forward to Anfield, otherwise he could be causing issues for the Reds next season.
