Liverpool fans riled as Alexander-Arnold admission resurfaces on Ramos

Trent Alexander-Arnold has angered Liverpool supporters once again.

The Anfield faithful were left reeling when the 26-year-old announced that he would leave his boyhood club after 20 years with them.

The England star has joined Real Madrid as was widely expected, with the Reds receiving an £8.5million fee to release him from his contract early.

Alexander-Arnold admission on Ramos resurfaces

Liverpool had reached the Champions League final in the 2017-18 season and looked like the better team when Sergio Ramos smashed Mohamed Salah to the floor.

The Reds talisman was forced off after just 26 minutes, and Jurgen Klopp‘s side ultimately fell to a 3-1 defeat to Los Blancos without the Egyptian star on the pitch.

Speaking to The Guardian in September 2018, Alexander-Arnold said: “Everyone has their ways of winning and he has shown over the last 10 years that he’s a winner.

“So has his team, to win the Champions League three times in a row takes some doing, Ramos has probably been the best centre-back in the world for some time.

“Even if he was the enemy in May, you still have to respect him as a player.”

Those quotes have resurfaced on social media after his move to the Spanish capital was completed.

Liverpool fans furious after Alexander-Arnold comments

It is safe to say that there is a lot of bad blood between Reds fans and Alexander-Arnold about the way he handled his exit after winning everything possible with his local team.

The Three Lions ace was booed in the first game after the announcement was made, a 2-2 draw with Arsenal (11 May) in what Ian Darke branded as a “civil war” between supporters.

The atmosphere surrounding the final game at Anfield against Crystal Palace (25 May) was a lot calmer, with the new Madrid ace being thanked for his accomplishments.

However, he was labelled as a narcissist for his post after Liverpool’s trophy parade, which was all about himself, according to some fans.

He will likely be exorcised amongst the L4 outfit’s fanbase like Michael Owen and Steve McManaman are, but their exits were perhaps more understandable, as the Reds were not at the peak of the game when they departed.

Many observers, like Jamie Carragher, have been left baffled, with the prospect of winning trophies with your own club supposed to be the pinnacle of the game.

However, that is not the case in the modern era of football, with wider fame and fortune seemingly the be all and end all.
