Federico Chiesa set to leave Liverpool after verbal agreement reached

Federico Chiesa’s time at Liverpool could be set to come to an end already following a frustrating time at Anfield.

Chiesa, 27, arrived from Juventus just one year ago but has struggled for game time under Arne Slot, playing just 466 minutes this season in all competitions.

The forward made enough appearances to claim a Premier League winners’ medal, but only reached that feat after the title was already wrapped up.

Despite his struggles, the Italian has become a much-loved figure at Anfield, with his newly created chant gaining traction on Merseyside.

However, Liverpool fans are set for heartbreak this summer.

Chiesa agrees to join Milan

Chiesa has been linked with a move back to Serie A, with both AC Milan and Napoli interested.

It appears that Milan have stolen a march to sign the former Juventus man, though.

Sebastiano Sarno has reported via X that Chiesa has verbally agreed to leave Anfield and sign with the seven-time European Champions this summer.

Milan will now begin negotiations with Liverpool to agree on a reasonable fee for the Italian forward.

Napoli had looked to be Chiesa’s destination in January after Kvicha Kvaratskhelia left for Paris Saint-Germain, but it appears he will play for the rivals of his former club, Juventus.

Chiesa to join list of Liverpool flops as Reds offload deadwood

The Fiorentina academy graduate is not the only Italian player to disappoint on Anfield.

Alberto Aquilani is seen mainly as an embodiment of Rafael Benitez’s downfall at Anfield, while Mario Balotelli and Fabio Borini were also disastrous signings under Brendan Rodgers.

However, Chiesa is the only one who has managed to capture the hearts of Liverpool fans despite his difficult time on Merseyside.

Moving on from the Italian, however, is the correct move.

The Reds are entering a crucial stage of Slot’s tenure, as he begins to build his squad and slowly move away from Jurgen Klopp’s trophy-laden side.

The rebuild has already begun with the signing of Jeremie Frimpong, whilst Milos Kerkez and Florian Wirtz look set to join this summer.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Caoimhin Kelleher have already departed Merseyside, with Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott most likely to be next out of the door.

A big summer awaits, as Liverpool look to defend their title and progress further in Europe.
