Luis Diaz has been subject to rumours of a possible departure from Liverpool this summer.

The Colombian enjoyed an excellent season as the Reds easily stormed to the Premier League title, scoring 13 goals and providing five assists in 36 league appearances.

Diaz's contract runs until the summer of 2027, but the winger has been linked with a move away from Anfield, with Barcelona and clubs in Saudi Arabia interested.

However, the latest update on the South American's situation suggests he could extend his stay on Merseyside, instead.

Diaz transfer request found to be untrue

Diaz is now looking more likely to commit his future to Liverpool this summer.

Mundo Deportivo had reported that the Colombian had handed in a transfer request to the Anfield hierarchy, with Barcelona making him their number one target.

However, Pipe Sierra has shared on X that this rumour was completely false and that talks between the Reds and Diaz over an improved new contract are already underway.

Should talks break down over the Colombian's contract situation, Liverpool would be open to selling Diaz for more than £67.6million.

Diaz staying at Liverpool vital with rebuild expected

Liverpool are looking to revamp their attack this summer, but keeping the 28-year-old at Anfield is vital, given his importance to the side.

Diaz was Liverpool's second top scorer last season behind Mohamed Salah, with Cody Gakpo being the only other player to register double-digit goals in the league.

Attacking outgoings are expected at Anfield this summer, with Darwin Nunez set to leave Merseyside after a troubled spell in England.

Federico Chiesa could also be on his way out of Anfield, just one year after arriving from Juventus, whilst Diogo Jota's future isn't secure either.

A complete forward line rebuild is far too risky for Liverpool, which indicates the need for Diaz to remain on Merseyside to maintain continuity for the Premier League champions.

In terms of incomings, the Reds remain in hot pursuit of Florian Wirtz to help facilitate creativity for the attack following Trent Alexander-Arnold's departure, whilst a striker is also under consideration, with Hugo Ekitike heavily linked with a move to the North West.
