Liverpool frontunners to sign Gyokeres as odds crash on Anfield move
Liverpool have emerged as the shock leading contender to sign Sporting forward Viktor Gyokeres.
Fenway Sports Group are set to back Arne Slot to overhaul his squad in an attempt to retain the Premier League title.
The attack is an area that the Dutchman is keen to strengthen with the likes of Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez failing to impress last season.
It looks set to be an exciting summer on Merseyside with Jeremie Frimpong already completed, Milos Kerkez and Florian Wirtz lined up to be next, but there could be another big addition.

Liverpool favourites to sign Gyokeres
Portuguese football expert Sam Fonseca revealed to Liverpool News that there are reports in Portugal of a £60-68million “gentleman’s agreement” for Gyokeres to leave back in May.
The Swedish striker notched 54 goals and 13 assists in 52 matches this season and has been touted with a move to the Premier League, with the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham interested in his services.
However, the Anfield club may have taken the lead in the race to sign him, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.
The 26-year-old is 2/1 to join the champions with Bet 365 (as of 2 June, 10:00 am), with the Gunners ranked second-favourites at 5/2 and Manchester United at 4/1.
The likes of Juventus (11/2), Napoli (7/1) and Atletico Madrid (8/1) are all in the mix, while Spurs are 33/1 to nab the in-demand ace.

Gyokeres could be a game-changer for Liverpool
The number nine position has been the Reds’ main issue this season, with Nunez and Jota scoring a combined 11 goals in the league, which is simply not good enough for a title-winning team.
Gyokeres is clinical in front of the goal, and would complement the front line really nicely, given his work rate and ability to hold the ball up and bring his teammates into play.
He would relieve the burden on Mohamed Salah and could even take the Egyptian’s creative numbers up another level as he is much more lethal than the current options to lead the line.
If the Swedish sensation was signed alongside the likes of Frimpong, Kerkez and Wirtz, the L4 outfit would surely be the favourites to retain their domestic crown and also to go all the way in the Champions League.
