Jurgen Klopp complaints emerge as Liverpool ready mega Wirtz transfer

Liverpool are looking to complete the signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.

The summer transfer window has only just opened, but Arne Slot is wasting no time in getting to work in preparation for next season.

The Reds have already seen two bids for the 22-year-old German rejected, but have no intention of giving up yet, ready to push the boat out to secure a transfer.

However, as the board prepare to show Slot the support he needs to get a second successive Premier League title, it has highlighted some differences from Jurgen Klopp’s era as boss.

Simon Jordan makes Klopp observation at Liverpool

Liverpool have already secured the signing of Jeremie Frimpong and they are continuing to show their intentions for next season with this target.

The Reds certainly aren’t holding back when it comes to doing what they can to secure the transfer either.

It has been reported that their latest bid for Wirtz, which was rejected, was £109million, a club record fee.

Although it makes sense that the Merseyside outfit would have the money to spend, having won the Premier League title this term, it has not always been that way for the Reds.

Back in 2022, former boss Klopp spoke about his struggles to compete with the likes of Manchester City, who were spending such amounts.

When asked about the difference live on talkSPORT (2 June, 11:55 am), Simon Jordan argued that perhaps it’s more reflective of changes inside Anfield.

He said: “There is an argument that Jurgen had a complaint with his ownership model, saying you don’t want to push the cash up because I think they’ve always had headroom.

“So his argument was actually more to do with John Henry and the lack of preparedness to give him the cash.”

Liverpool ready to back Slot

Jordan could be right in his analysis, suggesting that Liverpool always had the ability to spend more, but chose not to.

However, that doesn’t mean the owners did not have full faith in Klopp during his time in the hot seat.

Rather, it could refer to the fact that back in 2022, Manchester City were dominating on every front, so regardless of the amount of money, they would be hard to beat.

Liverpool are the side on top at the moment.

However, now they are on a downturn, it is surely seen as a more logical time to provide the larger amounts of investment and try to maintain a position at the very top.

Klopp has made it clear that he is supportive of Slot, and the former boss is a fan of his successor, so while the ownership may differ in their actions, it doesn’t have to be reflective of who’s at the helm.
