Jamie Carragher predicts ‘surprise’ double Liverpool exit already

Liverpool are set for a busy summer as they reshape their team.

Fenway Sports Group are going to back Arne Slot to improve his squad in the transfer window as they look to defend the Premier League title.

The Reds have already completed the signing of Jeremie Frimpong and are looking to wrap up deals for Milos Kerkez and Florian Wirtz.

However, there could also be outgoings to fund those additions, and some of those may not please supporters.

Carragher makes Diaz and Gakpo exit prediction

Luis Diaz has been linked with a move to Barcelona, and Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Nassr have reportedly made him a top target.

Meanwhile, Cody Gakpo is reportedly on Bayern Munich’s shortlist after the Reds looked to have beaten the German side to Wirtz’s signature.

Anfield legend Jamie Carragher believes that Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes could allow the duo to depart this summer.

Speaking on The Overlap’s Fan Debate (3 June), he said: “I think the way that these want to run Liverpool is, they’re not going to sell their absolute best players but a Diaz or a Gakpo, who are good players, they wouldn’t want to sell them but if someone made them an offer that they think that is more than they think (they are worth)…

“In terms of those getting linked, I am like no you wouldn’t want to sell those, but they are probably thinking ‘well, if you offer us the right money, we will do it’…

“I think there could be a few surprises who go, if Liverpool get the right money.”

Liverpool should keep attacking duo despite Wirtz purchase

Wirtz looks set to arrive on Merseyside shortly, with an agreement on a fee seemingly getting closer with Bayer Leverkusen.

He can feature on the left flank or as a false nine, despite primarily being a number ten, which could spell danger for the duo if the Reds decide to sell someone to make up for the huge outlay that they will spend on the German ace.

However, the L4 outfit should be in no rush to allow Diaz or Gakpo to leave, as they both had really solid seasons in the title-winning campaign, although Mohamed Salah was the leading man in the attack, picking up the Golden Boot and the playmaker award.

The Reds benefit from having so many potent attackers, and if they were to lose some, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez should be on the chopping block instead after their miserable seasons.

It would be a surprise as Carragher stated, if the duo departed but the way that Edwards and Hughes operate, if they can make a significant profit on them, they will back themselves to bring in solid replacements and repeat the process.
