Barcelona react to Liverpool asking price after Luis Diaz talks

Luis Diaz could swap Merseyside for Catalonia, with Barcelona expressing an interest in the Liverpool forward.

Arne Slot has already conducted some exciting transfer business this window, with Jeremie Frimpong signing for Liverpool, while the Reds are also in pursuit of Florian Wirtz.

However, there will also be a few departures from Anfield. Trent Alexander-Arnold has already left Liverpool, signing for Real Madrid, while Caoimhin Kelleher is set to join Brentford.

Diaz could be the next to leave, with Barcelona wanting to sign the winger to bolster their attack.

Liverpool star Diaz is a priority target for Barcelona

Despite the winger being Liverpool’s second-highest goalscorer this season, with his 13 league goals helping to fire the Reds to the Premier League title, Diaz could still leave Anfield in the summer.

As reported by Florian Plettenberg (1 June), initial talks between Diaz and Barcelona have taken place.

Diaz has won his fair share of silverware at Liverpool

This demonstrates that in spite of Barca’s issues with registration and finances, Diaz is still one of their main transfer targets, even if the deal is set to be pricy.

Hansi Flick sees the Colombian as an ideal option to strengthen the left side of his front three. However, previous reports have stated that Diaz would cost Barcelona around £72 million

With two years remaining on the 28-year-old’s contract, Slot may feel it is a perfect time to sell if Liverpool don’t plan on offering Diaz a new contract.

The Reds could also use the interest from Saudi Arabia to force Barcelona to meet their demands.

Liverpool could use the sale of Diaz to sign Wirtz

After Liverpool’s second bid for Wirtz was rejected by Bayer Leverkusen [Christian Falk], it is clear that any deal for the German midfielder will be an expensive one.

Selling Diaz would further guarantee that Liverpool have the funds to complete the signing of Wirtz.

After signing the tricky forward from Porto for £37.5 million, potentially rising to £50million, making a sizeable profit on the Colombian could prove to be a smart piece of business.
