Liverpool to seal Florian Wirtz agreement as Bayer Leverkusen deal gathers pace
Liverpool are not settling for their Premier League title with the chequebook already open.
Having already completed a deal for Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong, they are now hellbent on signing his former teammate, Florian Wirtz.
The deal to bring Wirtz to Anfield is set to cost a seismic £126million, which would surpass the club-record £85million spent on Darwin Nunez.
Fabrizio Romano has provided a significant update on the deal to bring Wirtz to the North West, with a move now seemingly imminent.

Romano provides update on Wirtz deal
Last season, the Reds spent very little in footballing terms, signing Frederico Chiesa for an initial £10million and Giorgi Mamardashvili for around £25million.
Liverpool were considered outsiders for the Premier League title as a result of their timid summer, and surprised most people by lifting the trophy.
However, their shrewdness last summer is due to pay dividends as the Merseyside club can now spend big in the current window.
A £29.5million deal to sign Frimpong has already been agreed, and Arne Slot’s side are now set to spend north of £100million on Wirtz.
Florian Wirtz’s 2024/25 Bundesliga statistics | Total |
Appearances | 31 |
Goals | 10 |
Expected goals (xG) | 9.4 |
Assists | 12 |
Touches | 73.4 |
Accurate passes | 42.2 (82%) |
Liverpool remain confident of finalising a deal for the German as a new round of talks have been scheduled for this week, according to Romano (2 June).
He adds that the Reds are hopeful of reaching an agreement with Leverkusen soon, well ahead of the new season.

Wirtz would take Liverpool to another level
Defending a Premier League title is extremely difficult, but Liverpool will make themselves favourites if they land Wirtz.
Slot already possesses a squad brimming with talent, and adding one of the best players in world football will only help.
The 22-year-old has been in sensational form in Germany and already has over 100 goal involvements for Leverkusen.
At Euro 2024, Wirtz showcased his ability on the grandest stage and proved that he is a man for the big occasion.
Of course, Liverpool need a new striker and a sprinkle of additions, but Wirtz can lead them to a second successive Premier League title.
