Bayer Leverkusen want Liverpool duo as Florian Wirtz transfer talks continue

Liverpool continue to pursue the signing of Florian Wirtz to strengthen their midfield.

Liverpool could make a big statement by signing Wirtz, as the Reds prepare to defend their Premier League title.

Arne Slot’s side, who won the league at a canter last season, would surely be the favourites to win the league again if the German midfielder was added to their ranks.

However, a deal for the 22-year-old will be an expensive one, and two Liverpool players could potentially be used as part of the negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen.

Bayer Leverkusen want Harvey Elliot and Jarrell Quansah

Quansah and Elliot have been bit-part players under Slot this season, with neither of the young English talents being able to establish themselves as regulars.

As a result, both players have been linked with Anfield exits.

As reported by Florian Plettenberg (1 June), Bayer Leverkusen have suggested including both players in a deal for Wirtz.

No final decision has been made on this yet, with talks ongoing, and it remains unclear how much the Liverpool duo would reduce the fee for Wirtz, which comfortably exceeds £100 million.

With Liverpool’s second offer having been rejected by Leverkusen [Christian Falk], this could be a creative way for the Reds to facilitate Wirtz’s Anfield arrival.

Signing for one of the best clubs in the Bundesliga, with a chance to play more consistent minutes, should be an attractive proposition for both Elliot and Quansah.

Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag recently succeeded Liverpool legend Xabi Alonso as the manager of Leverkusen. The Dutchman will be looking to replicate the success of Alonso, and the signings of Elliot and Quansah could aid him in doing so.

Liverpool duo should welcome Leverkusen move

With Elliot and Quansah both being 22, playing football regularly would be beneficial to their development.

Both have proven ability, and playing in the Bundesliga and competing for trophies could be the platform both need to realise their full potential and to catapult their way into the England setup.

The Bundesliga has been beneficial for developing English talent in recent years, with both Jude Bellingham and Jadon Sancho experiencing success in Germany.

It is already set to be a summer of outgoings at Anfield, with Trent Alexander-Arnold moving to Real Madrid and Caoimhin Kelleher finalising a move to Brentford.

Luis Diaz could potentially be on the move also, and if Elliot and Quansah are not part of Slot’s plans, then they too should seek a move away.
