FSG can pull off biggest masterstroke yet amid exciting Liverpool transfer update

Liverpool look like they could make a bold switch with Hugo Ekitike coming in and Darwin Nuñez going out.

After a mixed spell at Anfield, Nuñez’s time may be ending, while Ekitike is seen as a promising alternative – one with composure in front of the goal, offering Liverpool a more consistent man upfront.

Ekitike joining Liverpool could be their best business yet, if they pull off this move this summer.

Why Hugo Ekitike is Liverpool’s best business after Núñez

The 22-year-old striker has proven himself in the Bundesliga this season with Eintracht Frankfurt.

After joining the German club back in 2023, the forward hit the ground running last season.

Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported via X on 26 May that Liverpool are reportedly eyeing up the France Under-21s international if their current number nine, Nuñez, departs the club this summer.

Nuñez is currently linked with a move towards Saudi Arabia or Spain.

If a Saudi Arabia move does open up for the Uruguayan international, Liverpool will receive a respectable fund.

This fee will help bring in Ekitike, who scored 15 goals in the Bundesliga last season.

Nunez and Ekitike: A tale of two strikers

Two strikers, but a different outcome.

Nunez arrived in Liverpool from Benfica in 2020, despite flashes of brilliance in this champion team, his time in Merseyside has often been inconsistent, with moments of chaos.

Liverpool’s number nine’s highest goalscoring campaign for Liverpool was in 2023-2024 with 11 goals in 36 Premier League matches.

The rumoured replacement, Ekitike, scored 15 goals with eight assists for Eintracht Frankfurt last season in the Bundesliga in 33 matches.

In all competitions, he had 22 goals and 12 assists for the German club last season.

Rivalling Nunez’s seven goals and four assists for Liverpool’s title-winning campaign.

Ekitike has shown glimpses of his potential, a player who has pace and finishing quality, which adds a dynamic to Liverpool’s attack and this has caught the eye of Liverpool’s owners.

The 22-year-old forward has an all-around attacking threat with the ability to hold the ball up.

Add his goalscoring record, this makes him a well-rounded striker.

As a rising star, he has time to learn and reach his full potential with Liverpool, which is making him an attractive prospect for the Reds.
