Jurgen Klopp ‘shocked and devastated’ by terrifying Liverpool parade scenes

Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has released a statement expressing his shock at the violent scenes that took place during the club’s title parade.

As the Reds celebrated their second Premier League title, chaos struck just after 6pm on Monday when a car ploughed into dozens of supporters on Water Street.

More than 50 people are thought to have been injured in the incident, although police confirmed today that 39 have since been discharged from hospital and the remaining 11 are in a stable condition.

A 53-year-old has since been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, dangerous driving offences and driving whilst unfit through drugs, according to Merseyside Police.

Jurgen Klopp ‘devastated’ by terrifying scenes

The scary scenes left a dark stain on a day that should have been filled with joy.

Liverpool Football Club immediately reacted in a statement: “Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this serious incident.

“We will continue to offer our full support to the emergency services and local authorities who are dealing with this incident.”

The scenes were also captured in distressing footage posted to X, documenting the terror of onlookers as they watched the vehicle propel into masses of fleeing fans.

Klopp, who had been present as Liverpool lifted the title at Anfield on Sunday, took to Instagram to share his shock.

The German said: “My family and I are shocked and devastated, our thoughts and prayers are with all those who are injured and affected.

“You’ll never walk alone.”

Klopp spent nine years at Liverpool, leaving in 2024, and his integration within the culture and pride of the city saw him considered by fans almost as an honorary Liverpudlian.

Liverpool united in response

While separated by football allegiances, the people of Liverpool are united by their love for their city.

After Monday’s terrible scenes, Everton Football Club released a statement expressing their well-wishes for those affected and urged anyone with information to come forward.

“As a city, we stand together,” the club said.

First responders ran towards danger and sought to save lives, while risking their own.

In the surrounding streets, homes were opened, and travel was offered in the aftermath, with the people of Liverpool instinctively supporting their own in times of peril.

And they will continue to do so, because that is what they do.

Whilst a day of celebration was marred by violence, generosity and home pride will inevitably emerge from the identity that the city of Liverpool has once again showcased.

A blue arm around a red shoulder – the strength of the city in times of adversity has always been presented in their unity.

This shocking event will undoubtedly be etched into remaining scars, but Liverpool’s fortitude will remain unbroken.
