Danny Murphy makes astonishing Liverpool Premier League title claim as transfer nears

Liverpool won the Premier League title with ease this season, but this may not necessarily be the case again next year.

Arne Slot triumphed in his first season when very few backed his side to win the league, but while Liverpool were strong performers throughout the campaign, another factor did help them.

Liverpool ended the season 10 points clear of Arsenal, while Manchester City were 13 behind, and the two biggest competitors of the last two years both took steps backwards.

Nevertheless, Liverpool will be one of the favourites again next season, and one transfer could seal them the title now, according to Danny Murphy.

Murphy claims Florian Wirtz will win Liverpool the title

Liverpool are reportedly close to agreeing a sensational deal to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, which would certainly be a statement signing.

Wirtz has established himself as one of the best attacking midfield talents in the world, and the deal is set to smash Liverpool’s transfer record.

Former Liverpool star Murphy has now claimed that if the deal goes ahead, Wirtz will win Liverpool the Premier League with ease, and the race would be over before it even begins.

“You know what the big problem is? If Liverpool get Wirtz, it’s [the title race] done,” Murphy told talkSPORT (27 May).

“Have you seen him? He does lovely things with his feet, but his passing is also superb. He sees the whole picture. Normally, you’re a bit more one or the other, but he’s got both.

“He’s a good finisher and he gets in good positions. Some of the things he does, you’re like ‘oh wow.'”

Wirtz can transform Liverpool attack

Although Liverpool’s attack was strong this season, it was heavily reliant on Mohamed Salah, whose astonishing campaign saw him participate in 55 per cent of his side’s goals.

In games where Liverpool struggled, such as the defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, the attack fell flat, and the current options failed to take their chances when presented with openings.

Wirtz can change that as another high-level attacker alongside Salah, and will either play as a false nine in attack, or as a creative midfielder to supply them with chances.

The German is adept at both scoring and assisting, and will also add a lot of flair in central positions, which can help take Slot’s attack to another level of excellence next season.
