Florian Wirtz ‘one step from Liverpool transfer’ after what he told Bayern Munich

Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz could be the story of the summer, as Liverpool race for his signature already.

Wirtz, 22, has been subject to heavy interest from both the Reds and Bayern Munich, with Liverpool registering their intentions with the player earlier this month.

The German has enjoyed another excellent season, registering 10 goals and 12 assists as Xabi Alonso’s former side finished second in the Bundesliga.

Wirtz prefers a move to Liverpool over Bayern Munich

Wirtz has informed Bayern Munich of his intention to join Liverpool this summer.

According to Sacha Tavolieri on X, the midfielder is now one step away from moving to Anfield, despite previously having a verbal agreement to join the Bavarians.

The 22-year-old was initially in a tug-of-war with Bayern and Manchester City, before Pep Guardiola’s side pulled out of the race earlier this week due to the financial nature of the deal, according to BBC Sport.

However, after initiating talks with Wirtz and his family, Liverpool have jumped to the front of the queue for the highly regarded star.

The Reds look set to begin negotiations with Leverkusen imminently, with a transfer expected to cost the Premier League Champions around £126million.

Reds stealing early march on their rivals ahead of title defence

Liverpool are making early moves in preparation for next season, addressing multiple positions of weakness already, despite lifting the title this weekend.

The Reds are set to make Jeremie Frimpong their first summer signing after the Dutch international completed his medical ahead of a £29.5m move from Leverkusen.

Slot’s side are also in for Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez, who entered advanced talks this week as Liverpool attempt to upgrade with Andrew Robertson on the decline.

A deal for Wirtz would be an incredible steal for the Premier League Champions, adding much-needed creativity after Trent Alexander-Arnold confirmed he will leave Anfield at the end of the season.

Liverpool will not halt their transfer business there, however, with several outgoings also expected this summer, with Darwin Nunez, Caoimhin Kelleher and Harvey Elliott all expected to depart Anfield after frustrating seasons.

It’s all systems go already for FSG, with the chequebook flying open.
