Man United legend makes ‘phenomenal’ Arne Slot claim at Liverpool

Teddy Sheringham heaped praise on Liverpool manager Arne Slot for leading his side to the Premier League title in his debut season.

The former Manchester United and Tottenham striker described the Dutchman’s achievement as “phenomenal” and sees him as the outstanding candidate for Manager of the Season.

Sheringham was giving his thoughts on the award ahead of Liverpool’s final game of the year against FA Cup winners Crystal Palace.

Liverpool have won the league with ease

The Reds secured their second Premier League title with a win over Tottenham at the end of April after an outstanding season.

Speaking to Prime Casino (23 May), Sheringham also named Aston Villa’s Unai Emery and Newcastle’s Eddie Howe as managers who have impressed him alongside Slot.

“I think there’s a lot of candidates for manager of the season. Arne Slot is one, but you can include some teams below Liverpool, too,” he said.

“There’s Unai Emery at Aston Villa, he’s definitely up there. He’s brought a lot of optimism to Aston Villa. At Newcastle, Eddie Howe has done fantastically. They’ve won a trophy and they’re still performing consistently.”

The former England striker, who won the Premier League three times with Manchester United, felt as though the ease with which Liverpool won the title sees Slot as the favourite for the award.

“But you have to say that Arne Slot, in his first season, winning the league at a canter is phenomenal,” said Sheringham.

Reds ready for title celebration

Liverpool will finally lift the Premier League trophy after they host Crystal Palace at Anfield this Sunday.

This will be a moment of celebration for Liverpool fans, who missed out on the title festivities due to COVID-19 restrictions back in 2020.

It has been a fantastic achievement from Slot in his first season in charge, as he became the first Dutch manager in history to win the league.

The achievement has been particularly impressive by the fact that Federico Chiesa has been the only signing the club made and Slot has largely been working with Jurgen Klopp’s old squad.

The ex-Feyenoord manager will be hoping that the club can now attract more names this window as they look to compete again next season.

Liverpool have been the outstanding team all season, winning 25 of their 37 games so far and could finish a whopping 15 points ahead of Arsenal by the time the campaign wraps up.

Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah will also be hoping to secure his fourth Premier League Golden Boot after this weekend.

The 32-year-old, who recently signed a contract extension with the club, has helped lead the Reds to the title with 28 goals so far this season.

He is currently five ahead of Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and will be looking to wrap up the award on Sunday.
