Premier League official makes mistake as Liverpool carved onto trophy
Liverpool fans have long awaited the club’s celebration with the Premier League trophy, after Arne Slot’s successful first season.
The Reds last lifted the Premier League trophy to an empty Anfield in 2020, with this season’s champion celebrations highly anticipated.
Liverpool claimed their 20th league title with four games to spare after a 5-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur last month.
The team narrowly missed out on a second Premier League title last season, finishing third on 82 points in the shadow of a dominant Manchester City.
Yet a total of 83 points was enough to secure their victory this season after a dominant performance for Slot’s first year in charge.
Liverpool players and staff have already kicked off the celebrations in Ibiza before their defeat at Brighton on Monday, 19 May.
The trophy will be formally presented in front of fans on 25 Sunday, when Liverpool host FA Cup winners Crystal Palace.

Engraving controversy overshadows historic win
Liverpool’s 20th title was etched into history, as their name was carved into the Premier League trophy.
The Premier League released a photograph on X (21 May) of the engraving at jewellers Asprey London.
Their 20th title takes them to level with Manchester United for the most English top-flight Championships.
Liverpool | 20 |
Manchester United | 20 |
Arsenal | 13 |
Manchester City | 10 |
However, fans were quick to notice a mistake within the trophy, outraged by a lack of consistency.
Within the image, ‘Liverpool F.C.’ was written as the champions of the 2024-25 season, yet their victory in 2019-2020 was simply marked ‘Liverpool’.
Fans quickly took to social media to comment on the unusual inconsistency:
One commented: “Congratulations to Liverpool and Liverpool F.C. on their respective wins.”
A second wrote: “The lack of consistency in ‘Liverpool’ and ‘Liverpool FC’ has blown my mind here.”
Some even accused the image of being AI-generated, as earlier images had shown ‘Liverpool F.C.’ as the engraved text for the 2019-20 season.
Liverpool looks to build on the successful season
Liverpool looks to build on the significant achievement made this season with an active transfer window, despite the engraving anomaly.
To defend their league crown next season, the absence of Trent Alexander-Arnold, potentially Darwin Nunez and Joe Gomez creates gaps for Slot to strengthen.
Reports have indicated Liverpool is pushing for a move for Bayern Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong as a replacement for Alexander-Arnold.
To build the defence further, Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez has also been linked to the league champions.
The Reds have also been continuously pursuing an interest in highly sought-after midfielder Florian Wirtz, competing with Bayern Munich.
The 21-year-old has had a successful season in the Bundesliga with Bayern Leverkusen, showcasing his creativity and technical ability.
As Liverpool fans celebrate the Premier League title this weekend, they hope it can attract rising talent to help bring further success to Merseyside next season.
