Slot cannot afford to make Liverpool transfer mistake amid Plettenberg update

Liverpool are set for a busy transfer window in terms of incoming and outgoings, and it appears Arne Slot already has one tough decision to make.

Slot won the Premier League with ease in his first season. However, he will be well aware that he now needs to strengthen his squad to remain competitive next year.

Liverpool want to sign a centre-back but lost out on Dean Huijsen as the Spaniard moved to Real Madrid.

Their depth in that position is already thin. However, one centre-back is still being linked with a Liverpool exit, and Slot will be aware of the risks of selling him.

Jarell Quansah could leave Liverpool

Quansah has had a difficult season at Liverpool, and he could now depart in the summer amid a lot of transfer interest.

The 22-year-old has started just four Premier League games all season, including Liverpool’s 3-2 defeat to Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Monday (19 May). Therefore, he could leave in search of regular football.

As reported by Florian Plettenberg via X (20 May), several English and German clubs are interested in signing Quansah, who may be allowed to leave Liverpool.

Slot must not sell Quansah without a replacement

Quansah has had a difficult few seasons, as his performances have sometimes left a lot to be desired, and some high-profile errors have crept into his game.

At 22, it is natural for a defender to make mistakes, especially given his lack of regular game time. This does mean that he will need to play regularly next season to further his development.

However, Slot cannot afford to lose Quansah, who can play at centre-back and right-back. Virgil van Dijk is getting older and may require more rest, while Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez are both injury-prone.

Liverpool need a centre-back even if Quansah stays, but will have to sign another defender on top if he leaves, and allowing a homegrown young talent with potential to depart permanently could end up being a huge mistake from Slot.
