Liverpool Exclusive: Bundesliga Expert shares what he has been told about Wirtz

Liverpool are said to be chasing a deal for Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz.

The German is one of the hottest properties in world football right now with the Reds, Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Real Madrid all linked with his signature.

Representatives from the Anfield club are believed to have met his entourage earlier this week, and there were suggestions that the Germans were keen to sell to Arne Slot, rather than their domestic rivals.

Liverpool move for Wirtz not advanced despite claims

Wirtz would be a game-changing signing for Liverpool, but anyone getting their hopes up should do so at their own peril.

Bundesliga expert Kevin Hatchard has revealed that the deal for Wirtz is not as far along as we are led to believe.

Speaking exclusively to Liverpool News, he said: “It is difficult to know, but I would say Bayern are still favourites. Liverpool definitely met him, but that might just be because Leverkusen insisted he speak to foreign clubs as well as to Bayern.

“I’ve been told the interest from Liverpool is there, but not as advanced as some are making out.”

Wirtz move would be exciting for Liverpool

Supporters dream of signing superstars, and the 22-year-old is definitely on his way to becoming one of the very best number 10s in the game in the Kevin De Bruyne mould, if he continues on his current trajectory.

He has notched 10 goals and 12 assists in 31 German league matches this season to take his tally to 122 contributions in 196 appearances for Xabi Alonso‘s former side.

If the Reds did manage to wrap up a deal ahead of the Bavarians, it could well be the tonic that they need to defend their league crown next season, but it seems like there is still a lot of work to do after Hatchard’s update and it may just be a ploy to drive the £126million price up.

It promises to be an exciting summer on the red half of Merseyside with Fenway Sports Group set to back Slot to transform his squad, and if they can get the Wirtz deal over the line, it would be the best signing of the window.
