Fabrizio Romano drops new Frimpong and Liverpool transfer update

Liverpool are set to complete a move for Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold poised to leave for Real Madrid at the end of the season, the Reds are keen to refresh the right side of their defence.

And Arne Slot has identified his countryman, Frimpong, as his ideal replacement.

Liverpool will activate the £29.4million (€35m) release clause in the 24-year-old’s contract, with the signing set to be announced shortly.

Romano reveals Frimpong to sign in ‘next 24 hours’

The signing of Frimpong is expected to be the first in a busy summer for Liverpool, with the club’s hierarchy keen to build on a title-winning first season under Slot.

Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez is also linked, with the Reds reportedly keen to provide competition for Andy Robertson.

But Frimpong will be the first through the door at Melwood, with Fabrizio Romano revealing that the defender’s move is just hours away from completion.

“Jeremie Frimpong will sign his contract at Liverpool in the next 24 hours, deal confirmed,” the transfer guru wrote on X.

Romano also revealed that the first and second parts of the 24-year-old’s medical had been completed, with just formal steps and an announcement to follow.

Frimpong arrival marks shift in style

A marauding full-back, the signing of Frimpong will mark a shift from the deeper nature of Alexander-Arnold.

Preferring to overlap rather than drop inside, the Dutchman can often be spotted high up the pitch and taking on his opposing defender.

Frimpong has scored five goals and provided six assists in the Bundesliga this season, also possessing a deadly driven cross when given the space to deliver.

With the news of Mohamed Salah’s new contract last month, Liverpool’s star man is likely to receive far more support from his new right-sided partner.

Conor Bradley is also set to benefit, with the defender likely to share minutes while his new teammate adapts to the Premier League.

And the possible arrival of Kerkez would add further attacking force to Liverpool’s wide areas, with the Hungarian similarly dangerous going forward.

That deal will be more difficult to complete, however, with Bournemouth keen to profit from the 21-year-old’s emergence amid interest from several Premier League clubs.

Title rivals Arsenal and Manchester City have also reportedly registered their interest in a move for Kerkez this summer.
