Virgil van Dijk reacts to Kevin De Bruyne message after FA Cup final

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has called on his side to be active in the transfer market.

The Dutchman signed a two-year contract extension in April, that will keep him at Anfield until 2027 at the very least.

The 33-year-old has called on Fenway Sports Group to back Arne Slot to revamp his squad in the summer as they attempt to retain their Premier League crown next season.

Van Dijk reacts to De Bruyne message after FA Cup final loss

Kevin De Bruyne has been linked with a move to the Reds after announcing that he will leave Manchester City at the end of the season.

The Belgian star took to Instagram following to 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace (17 May) in the FA Cup final, saying: “Unfortunately we couldn’t pull it off but thank you so much for the support!”

Van Dijk reacted by liking the post, which will only increase speculation surrounding a potential move.

De Bruyne could work at Liverpool

Mohamed Salah had already joked about De Bruyne joining the Merseysiders in an interview with Sky Sports earlier this week.

The Egyptian said that there was a space on the team for the 33-year-old when speaking to former Manchester United ace Gary Neville.

While Salah’s comments were tongue-in-cheek, there is a chance that the Premier League’s best ever playmaker could end up in L4 next season, if he is willing to take a reduced role and wage packet.

The 109-cap international reportedly wishes to remain in England and he could still do a job for the Reds, as he has notched four goals and seven assists in 26 league matches this season.

The Citizens ace is not at the peak of his powers anymore but he could still relieve the burden from Dominik Szoboszlai with a managed fitness regime.

The champions need a new playmaker, with Trent Alexander-Arnold seemingly set to join Real Madrid and De Bruyne would fit the bill, although Florian Wirtz may be the better option, giving his age and wages are considerably lower.

City losing a player of his quality is already a major blow for Guardiola, Slot could compound it by adding the Belgian maestro to his arsenal.
