Leeds ‘offered encouragement over Tsimikas transfer’ after Liverpool admission

Leeds United are set to grow in confidence over a deal for Kostas Tsimikas after a quiet season at Liverpool.

It is fair to say that the Greece international has been a bit-part player ever since completing his move to Anfield from Olympiakos in 2020.

With that being said, the 29-year-old has certainly proven to be a valuable member of the squad in successes under both Arne Slot and Jurgen Klopp.

Despite this success, a move to Leeds could still be on the cards in the summer, especially after what Tsimikas has said in the past.

Leeds United in Tsimikas transfer boost

Despite picking up a Premier League winners’ medal under the Dutch head coach on Merseyside this season, his minutes have been severely limited.

This has seen the defender manage just eight league appearances, while failing to earn a regular starting role ahead of Andy Robertson.

As a result, departing in the summer could prove to be a wise move for the Greek, as Leeds United have reportedly shown an interest.

The Daily Mail reported on 14 May that the Whites were interested in signing the left-back as the Reds look to strengthen the same position in their squad.

This could see Tsimikas move to Elland Road and help fulfil his desire to secure regular first-team minutes, as he has wanted this season in L4.

Speaking to the official Liverpool website in January, the Olympiacos academy product revealed his desire to play regularly after working hard in training.

He said: “I wait for my turn from the manager to give me the chance to be back again and to play as good as I can and to help my team to achieve our goals.

“I worked really hard – a lot of hours of treatment here in the training ground, even in my house. I always try to help myself.

“Now I’m fully here and 100 per cent. It was a really tricky period, but I trained really hard, and that’s why I’m here.”

Tsimikas sale makes sense for Liverpool

There is no doubt that the Greek defender has something which can be of use to the Reds but he’s never going to be a regular starter realistically.

With Robertson available, the Scot is always going to be favoured and is likely to be replaced at some point in the near future.

It will certainly be interesting to see what the future has in store for Tsimikas and whether a move to Leeds does materialise in the summer.

The switch to Elland Road, if he is to be a regular starter in Yorkshire, it would make sense for the left-back to move on at this stage.
