Micah Richards shocked by Liverpool transfer news Gary Lineker told him –  ‘Wow’

Micah Richards is already impressed by Liverpool, as they begin work to strengthen their squad this summer transfer window.

Liverpool have no plans to rest on their laurels after winning the Premier League in Arne Slot’s first season as their manager, with FSG prepared to back him with new signings this summer.

The Merseyside-based club are to bring in a new left-back and a striker, especially with Darwin Nunez certain to leave ahead of next season.

Slot’s side could also look at strengthening other areas of the pitch, depending on market opportunities and departures, with the Reds’ approach already impressing Richards.

Richards cannot believe Jeremie Frimpong transfer news

With Trent Alexander-Arnold set to join Real Madrid on a free transfer when his deal with Liverpool expires, signing a new right-back has become one of the priorities for the Reds this summer.

The Anfield outfit do not intend to waste time on identifying a replacement for the England international, with a deal for Jeremie Frimpong already lined up.

Addressing Alexander-Arnold’s imminent exit, Gary Lineker relayed information from Fabrizio Romano that claimed the Premier League champions are moving forward with talks to sign Frimpong and have also been in touch with Bayer Leverkusen over triggering his £29.5million release clause.

“Latest news here from a friend of the podcast, Fabrizio Romano”, Lineker said on the Rest is Football show (14 May).

“Liverpool are advancing in talks to sign Jeremie Frimpong as right-back. Liverpool have already approached Bayer Leverkusen, discussing a €35m (£29.5m) release clause structure.”

Richards was so blown away by the transfer news that he simply said, “Wow”.

Meanwhile, Alan Shearer claimed that he is not surprised that Liverpool want to sign Frimpong in the wake of Alexander-Arnold’s departure.

Frimpong keen to join Liverpool

It is only a matter of time before Frimpong completes his proposed transfer to Liverpool.

With the Reds prepared to trigger the Dutchman’s release clause, they now only need to agree personal terms with the player to finalise the deal.

That is not expected to be a problem as the 24-year-old is eager to move to Anfield.

It is evident that the Merseyside-based do not plan to waste time in the window this time, with Slot’s side already making waves in the market.

It is worth noting that Liverpool have also been credited with a genuine interest in signing Frimpong’s Leverkusen teammate Florian Wirtz.
