Liverpool flop in shock contention for Hull City next manager job

Liverpool players and supporters alike are continuing to celebrate what has been a remarkable first campaign for Arne Slot at Anfield.

Slot guided Liverpool to just a second ever Premier League title in his maiden season on English shores.

It was this time last year that Liverpool fans were preparing to say goodbye to Jurgen Klopp, who is set to return to Anfield to join in the title celebrations, and usher in a new era.

There is certainly no managerial uncertainty at Anfield right now, although there are plenty of clubs up and down the country seeking a new boss.

Hull City set to sack Ruben Selles

Selles helped keep Hull in the Championship this season, but he is now set to be sacked by the Tigers.

The Spaniard only left League One side Reading to replace Tim Walter on a two-and-a-half-year deal in December, but he is heading for the exit just five months later.

A number of names have already been linked with the position, with Tom Cleverly installed as the early frontrunner following his recent Watford exit.

According to the most recent next Hull manager odds, as per Betting Odds (15 May), a former Liverpool flop is among those under consideration for the job.

Nuri Sahin in running for next Hull manager

Nuri Sahin is currently 16/1 to become the next Hull manager, placing him some way down the list.

Sahin had an unsuccessful five-month spell on loan with Liverpool in the 2012-13 season, which he later admitted he did not enjoy – other than playing alongside Steven Gerrard.

The Turk has since moved into management, most recently spending time in charge of Borussia Dortmund.

Sahin lasted just half-a-year in the job, though, before being sacked in January 2025 after a poor run of results.

It is fair to say Sahin is not exactly be the most memorable figure at Anfield, and nor has his managerial career been a success so far.

However, it may well be that he takes up his first coaching role in English football very soon indeed.
