Liverpool ‘wrap up Premier League next season’ after £125m transfer trip hijack

Liverpool eased to the Premier League title this season and could be about to repeat the trick.

The Reds were crowned champions with four matches left after they hammered Tottenham 4-1 on 27 April.

Arne Slot engineered a remarkable campaign in his first season in English football and a new development means he might be about to do it again.

Liverpool transfer mission for Wirtz revealed

Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz is a man in very high demand and has been linked with the Anfield club, among others.

A report from German outfit Bild (14 May) claims Liverpool representatives hijacked Manchester City’s talks with the player’s representatives and held their own discussions in Blackpool on Tuesday (13 May).

It states that Slot is “extremely interested” in signing the 22-year-old amid interest from the likes of City, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Wirtz is reported to be valued around the £125million mark by the German club, so a deal would not be easy to reach.

Wirtz would take Liverpool to a new level

The German international is one of the most sought-after players in world football and would be a brilliant addition to the Merseysiders’ squad.

He has notched 57 goals and 65 assists for Xabi Alonso’s side in 196 appearances and that output would probably increase if he was playing with the likes of Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo.

Virgil van Dijk outlined the L4 club’s plans for a big summer after he signed a new deal and the signing of the 29-cap international would certainly fit the bill as he is a superstar in the making, exactly the kind of player that the champions should be making.

He is a game changer and would offer so much more to Slot’s side in the number 10 role from a creative perspective than the current options, Dominik Szoboszlai and Harvey Elliott, and he is on an upward trajectory, he is only going to get better.

The Reds would be in pole position to defend their domestic crown and win the Champions League if they beat the likes of Los Blancos, City and the Bavarians to his signature.
