Bo-Kearns sends Lundgaard message after injury return

Sofie Lundgaard has endured a miserable campaign on Merseyside as she featured in just three WSL matches before she was injured.

The Danish midfielder suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in the 3-2 win over Tottenham on 6 October less than a month after signing a new contract in a devastating end to her season.

Liverpool Women shared a post on Instagram with the 22-year-old back in training after a long recovery from her injury.

Bo-Kearns reacted to the post by liking it and commenting, saying: “let’s go sista” with a love heart emoji.

Lundgaard’s Reds teammates Taylor Hinds and Marie Hobinger also liked the post, showing support for their colleague.

Liverpool need Lundgaard back next season

Lundgaard is the Reds’ star midfielder, so her absence was a major blow to Matt Beard then Amber Whiteley’s plans, after the veteran manager was sacked in February.

Without the Dane, the team struggled to replicate their impressive fourth-place finish from last season and ultimately finished in seventh, even with Olivia Smith’s impressive exploits.

The former Fortuna Hjorring ace was a near ever-present for Beard’s side before the blow and while the likes of Hobinger, Fuka Nagano and Ceri Holland filled the void, they could not have the same impact.

Hopefully, for Whiteley, or whoever is in charge next season if she does not get the permanent role, Lundgaard can maintain her fitness and push the Totally Wicked Stadium outfit further up the table, to potentially challenge for top honours.

One thing is for sure, they like Bo-Kearns, will appreciate the young midfield maestro being back in contention for a starting berth and her impact should vastly improve the team for a fresh push for success next campaign.
