Jurgen Klopp sidekick at Liverpool in contention for Norwich vacancy
Liverpool supporters may recognise the man in the Norwich dugout in the near future.
The Championship outfit are looking for a new manager after sacking Johannes Hoff Thorup in April after a miserable run of results.
Jack Wilshere was placed in interim charge but a former Jurgen Klopp ally on Merseyside may be about to take his place.

Pep Lijnders in running for Norwich role
Lijnders was Klopp’s assistant manager for a large stint of his time at Anfield and left with the German at the end of last season.
A report from The Telegraph (14 May) claims that the ex-Reds coach is set to be interviewed by the Canaries about their vacancy.
It states that the Dutchman is among several contenders, including the likes of Gary O’Neil and Steve Cooper.
Liverpool supporters mixed on Lijnders
Lijnders has got a good reputation with some Reds supporters, he is seen as the tactical mastermind behind some of the success that they enjoyed.
However, some sections of the fanbase criticised the Dutch coach when their team was out of form and he was slammed for releasing a book on the L4 outfit’s tactics after the successful 2021-22 season.
Trophy | Seasons won |
Champions League | 2018-19 |
Premier League | 2019-20 |
UEFA Super Cup | 2019-20 |
FIFA Club World Cup | 2019-20 |
Carabao Cup | 2021-22, 2023-24 |
FA Cup | 2021-22 |
The club reached the Champions League final, came within a point of lifting the title and won both domestic cups in that season but some fans viewed it as giving away information to the opposition, while others were outraged that he had spent a summer writing a book rather than preparing for the 2022-23 campaign.
After leaving Merseyside, he was appointed as the RB Salzburg manager, bringing Bobby Clark on a permanent transfer and Stefan Bajcetic on loan from the Reds, but that was an utter failure.
Lijnders was sacked in December 2024, after just six months in charge as his side were 10 points behind Austrian Bundesliga leaders Sturm Graz at this time.
If the second tier outfit appoint him, it would be a huge risk, his connections with his former team may come in handy in terms of signings and loan deal but there is nothing to suggest that he would succeed.
