Liverpool now have one thing to fear as Mo Salah makes contract revelation

Liverpool were handed a major boost in recent weeks as Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk both signed new contracts.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to join Real Madrid on a free transfer, but Arne Slot was able to tie down his other two key stars as they won the Premier League title.

Salah has been Liverpool’s best player this season, and his remarkable contributions in front of goal have now been rewarded.

It was a tense stand-off between player and club, but Salah ended all speculation over his future as he signed fresh terms in recent weeks, and he has now opened up on the saga.

Salah makes Liverpool contract admission

Salah has been the Premier League’s standout performer this season, and has hit the highest level in his career.

It would have been a huge blow to lose him on a free transfer, but he committed to two more years at Anfield, and he has now told France Football (9 May) that his contract situation motivated him to perform.

“You have to believe that in the end [the uncertainty] was a real asset because I had the best statistical season of my life,” Salah claimed.

“The possibility that it would be my last season here perhaps gave me the desire to make the most of it, and to give everything to win this title that I had promised.

“I had this state of mind: if the club doesn’t want to extend my contract, no worries, let’s finish as well as possible so that I leave through the front door.”

Liverpool will hope for no Salah drop-off

Some may have seen giving a huge contract to 32-year-old Salah as a huge risk, but fans are otherwise delighted that their best player has chosen to remain at the club.

However, in the past, players signing big contracts at older ages has seen some disastrous drop-offs in performance levels.

An example is that at Premier League rivals of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who signed a new contract after speculation over his future, but his performance levels dropped almost instantly.

Salah has claimed that his contract situation, and the possibility of it being his final year at Anfield, gave him extra motivation, but Liverpool will now hope that his motivation and goalscoring can continue with his future settled.
