Mohamed Salah ranked in all-time Liverpool legends

Liverpool have tied down the services of Mohamed Salah at Anfield until 2027.

The Reds found themselves in a tricky position when it came to out-of-contract players this summer and for many, Salah was seen as the most crucial asset.

The Egyptian has hit ridiculous numbers in the Premier League this season, currently leading the race for the Golden Boot.

As a result of his success, the 32-year-old was named as the Football Writers’ Association player of the year.

Salah compared to Kenny Dalglish at Liverpool

Although there is plenty of talent in the current Liverpool squad, Salah is one man who has continued to be a standout star.

Although he is now 32-years-old, there seems to be no signs of slowing down just yet, explaining why his current side was so eager to secure a new deal.

As Arne Slot has lifted the Premier League trophy in his first season managing in the Premier League, Salah has certainly had a big part to play in Liverpool’s success.

Salah has been in red hot form this season.

Therefore, it’s no surprise to see the attacker get the recognition he deserves as the season comes to a close.

Tony Cascarino took his praise one step further, though, as he assessed where the current Liverpool would sit in the all-time Liverpool list of legends.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (10 May, 6:25am), Natalie Sawyer asked: “Where would you put him [Salah] now, then as a Liverpool great? Is he right up there?”

Cascarino replied: “Yeah, definitely. What would I say? Well, there’s obviously Kenny, Rush, you’d probably put Alan Hansen, Steven Gerrard. I would say he’s in that group, without a doubt.

“Kenny Dalglish was an extraordinary player for Liverpool and some of them guys have won like six, seven titles for the club, so it’s, you know, European Cups or Champions League as it is today.

“The list of some of the Liverpool legends in years gone by is incredible in what they’ve won so, but I think King Kenny would obviously be the one. I’d have him [Salah], just below that.”

Salah to fire Liverpool to another Premier League trophy

Salah is rightfully receiving plenty of plaudits for the impressive form he has shown this season and he is likely to receive more awards as the end-of-season round-ups continue.

There is no doubt that, based on the standards he has shown consistently, he has earned legendary status at Anfield and will certainly go down in the history books.

Nevertheless, to be placed just below Dalglish is incredibly high praise and something that should be spurring the Egyptian on to achieve even more on Merseyside.

His retention at Liverpool is massive for Slot’s men and certainly sends out a real indicator that lifting the title this season was no fluke.

The Reds will be looking at reinforcements for their side but having Salah in the ranks already provides plenty and will surely help in attracting other players to Merseyside too.
