Kevin De Bruyne transfer twist emerges in fresh Liverpool update
Liverpool have been linked with a sensational move for out-of-contract Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne.
Arne Slot will already be thinking about how to improve his squad this summer after winning the Premier League this season.
While Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to leave Anfield, the Reds have been handed some big boosts in recent weeks after Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah put pen to paper on new contracts.
All three players started the season with a year left on their deals, just as De Bruyne did at Manchester City, with the Belgian recently announcing that he would be leaving the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season.

Liverpool have not made an offer to sign De Bruyne
Alex Crook previously suggested on talkSPORT (21 April, 10:13 am) that there had been some mischievous talk about De Bruyne joining Liverpool.
And on Wednesday (7 May), Gianluca Di Marzio reported that Liverpool had made an offer to the midfielder.
Manchester City | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Kevin De Bruyne | 418 | 108 | 177 |
However, it appears as though De Bruyne won’t be heading to Merseyside, with Ian Doyle reporting via the Liverpool ECHO on Thursday (8 May) that reports of Liverpool making an offer to the six-time Premier League winner were wide of the mark.
The ECHO understands that the Reds are setting their sights elsewhere and are mindful of the age of their squad, with De Bruyne set to turn 34 in June.
De Bruyne would be an audacious signing for Liverpool
De Bruyne is no doubt past his best.
However, adding a player of that quality and experience to Slot’s squad, without the need to pay a transfer fee, certainly couldn’t hurt. In addition, it would no doubt infuriate Manchester City supporters, which would be a bonus for Liverpool fans.
Therefore, if the option does arise to sign De Bruyne, Liverpool should certainly put some thought to it, as having a player of that calibre behind the scenes could only be beneficial, even if he is past his best.
