Liverpool Exclusive: ‘Word’ emerges from Slot and Hughes on brand new transfers

Liverpool boss Arne Slot will have significant pressure on him next season.

The Dutchman led the Reds to the Premier League title in his first season in charge on Merseyside but that could cause issues.

Expectations for his maiden season on English shores was pretty low with most pundits believing that the Anfield club would struggle for a top-four finish.

However, now that he has already tasted success, the Merseysiders need to capitalise on a historic campaign rather than sit on their laurels.

Slot and Hughes set for busy summer at Liverpool

Having secured new deals for Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, focus now turns to the summer transfer window.

Despite winning the title at a canter, there is still plenty of work to be done in the market to combat the flaws within the squad.

TV Commentator Ian Darke believes that Slot and sporting director Richard Hughes are aware of the task at hand and has predicted a busy summer for the L4 outfit, after hearing the latest word.

Speaking exclusively to Liverpool News, he said: “The word is, they are going to do the right thing, they are not just going to sit on what they have got.

There is going to be a quite sizeable shake-up of the squad in the summer, the vibe seems to be that there will be some fairly major signings.

“I remember the old players always used to say at Liverpool, when they were so dominant in the 80’s, people like Souness, said we actually, although we’d won things and we knew we were top of the tree, we liked it that there were new faces walking in the door, to put everybody back on their metal again.

“I’m sure that is part of Slot’s thinking, and Hughes, who has done a great job there in his first year as sporting director.

“Looking at the squad, they have re-signed Van Dijk and Salah, and they are both in mint condition still; there is no real reason why they couldn’t have a very successful year next time.”

The Reds have already been crowned champions.

If the Reds get it right in the market this summer, they could put themselves in a position to dominate the English game for a number of years.

They could also vastly increase their chances of winning the Champions League and adding a seventh elite European title to their 20th league title.
