Arsenal fans react to Liverpool guard of honour developments – ‘Arteta out’
Liverpool have found out Arsenal’s decision on whether they will receive a guard of honour on Sunday.
The Reds face the Gunners on 11 May after beating the Londoners to the Premier League title with four matches left to spare.
Arne Slot’s side secured the championship with a 5-1 hammering of Tottenham on 27 April and received the traditional gesture ahead of the 3-1 defeat to Chelsea (4 May).
However, there has been concerns that Mikel Arteta‘s side could refuse to do so after the L4 outfit ended their title ambitions.

Arsenal set to give Liverpool guard of honour
The North London outfit are set to honour the tradition when they visit Anfield to play the champions.
Premier League | Played | GD | Points |
C. Liverpool | 35 | +46 | 82 |
2. Arsenal | 35 | +33 | 67 |
The guard of honour is not compulsory and is not enforced by the Premier League, so they could have refused.
However, a report from the Daily Mail (6 May) claimed that the Gunners will show their respect to the Merseysiders when the sides walk on to the pitch.
Arsenal fans mixed over Liverpool announcement
The reaction from Arsenal supporters was a mixed one, some fans were happy that the club will perform the gesture as a mark of respect.
However, others were furious and called for Arteta to be sacked after another failure domestically for the ex-Everton player.

I’m so confused why do Liverpool fans care so much about this guard of honour?

I always thought the champions only get one guard of honour after it’s confirmed they have won it. Not every game after? I might be wrong #arsenal #liverpool

The Gunners still have the chance to win the Champions League, although they would need to turn around a 1-0 deficit against Paris Saint-Germain, who conquered the Anfield outfit, from the first leg at The Emirates.
If they tasted success in Europe, it would no doubt vastly increase the Spaniard’s reputation amongst fans, his peers and the wider footballing audience.
However, even if they manage to do so, Reds supporters will be keen to remind them that they were forced to give them a guard of honour after their league failings, given the clashes that have taken place on social media this season.
Their task will be made harder next season as Fenway Sports Group are set to back Slot to transform his squad in the summer, meaning that the Reds could be even stronger.
